Welcome to Southland’s blog!

Here we will share an array of content that includes day-in-the-life insights of a transportation company, Ask our Recruiter, industry news, and more! Through this medium, we are seeking to provide a contrasting way to share our story and interact with people inside and outside of our company. Here is a slice of information about us.

Founded in 1988 by R.J. Cummings, we began operations in a small office space and three company trucks in Dobson, NC. Early adopters of the service that Southland provides were the automotive and furniture manufacturing industries. The 1990s brought about expanded service offerings, thus Southland Brokerage Company came to be and now provides logistic management solutions for some of the largest corporations in the world. In recent years, Southland has grown to include a second terminal in Knoxville, TN, as well as numerous brokerage offices in Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Operating a fleet of over 200 tractors and 500 trailers, we continue to offer supply chain management solutions to our customers by providing asset-based transportation services. Our growth has been accelerated by focusing on the introduction of new clients to the Southland family of companies.

Progressing forward, Southland is committed to investing in our current and future associates with training and technology offering growth and stability opportunities for ourselves and our global partners. The last 10 years of freight management experience have shown us that deft adaptability is key to the dynamic landscape of business in the 21st Century.

When Southland looks to the future, we are also embracing changes to benefit our environment. There have been many improvements in the transportation industry. Below are some of the ways we are leading the trucking industry.

1) We work hard to ensure our trucks are driving with full loads to save fuel.

2) Our truck manufacturers are working to improve the truck’s design to make them more aerodynamic.

3) The advancement of technologies allows us to use more strategic route planning which reduces emissions.

When we implemented these improvements, we are taking major steps toward helping our future generations.

Southland’s continued growth is owed to our loyal customers and people that daily make our business a fantastic place to work.  Drivers, mechanics, and the rest of our workforce all contribute to our growth and success, doing what it takes to get the job done and earn the trust and loyalty of our supply chain management solution partnerships.

We are excited to grow and would love for you to be there on our journey forward. Thank you for taking the time to read our Southland blog.
